What this tool does

Music Check matches sampled portions of a file using audio-fingerprinting technology widely used across the industry. When the first-pass result is ambiguous, a second engine cross-checks the full file to reduce false positives. A match does not determine infringement, and no match does not determine rights or permission — this tool is a pre-publication risk screen, not a legal determination.

This mirrors a widely used industry sampling approach — for example, audio-recognition provider ACRCloud's own File Scanning documentation formally distinguishes between "Traverse Scanning" (scanning the entire file) and "Points Scanning" (sampling specific points, assuming one song per file) as scan policies.

FAQ

Good to know

Does a match mean copyright infringement?
No. Music Check records music-recognition matches only. A match is not a legal determination of infringement, rights, or permission.
If there's no match, am I safe?
A no-match does not guarantee rights or permission. Recognition databases are not exhaustive.
What can I screen?
Audio and video files up to 200 MB / 2 hours: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, MP4, MOV, WEBM.
Is my file stored?
Original uploads are scheduled for deletion within 24 hours after processing. You can delete reports and metadata from your account anytime.
Is this the same as YouTube/TikTok Content ID?
No. The databases differ, so results can differ. You remain responsible for verifying rights and intended use.
Isn't there a fixed number of seconds that automatically makes it infringement? (the "10-second rule")
No — no such rule exists in either US or Korean law. Courts and copyright statutes weigh originality, access, and substantial similarity as a whole, not a fixed number of seconds or bars. Music Check's screening does not treat that myth as a legal standard; it's a pre-publication risk check, not a legal determination.
